Episcopal Deanery Hosts Media Orientation to Empower Parish Communication Teams

The Commission for Social Communication of the Episcopal Deanery conducted a comprehensive training and orientation programme for parish media representatives at St. Sebastian Parish Hall, Bendur, on Saturday, August 1, 2026. The session, which commenced at 6:15 p.m. with an invoking prayer by Rev. Fr Joel Monteiro, Assistant Parish Priest of Bendur, brought together 24 participants representing eight parishes across the Episcopal Deanery. The initiative aimed to equip parish media teams with modern communication tools, ethical digital practices, and strategic media management skills. Rev. Fr Anil Ivan Fernandes, Secretary of the Diocesan Commission for Social Communication, served as the key resource person for the event. In his address, Fr Fernandes detailed the Commission’s three-year pastoral action plan, emphasizing the critical need for media literacy and responsible social media usage in today’s digital age. The training covered a broad range of contemporary topics, including Gospel-centred digital content creation, effective parish media management, public relations, and practical applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in church communication. During the interaction, participants were urged to take an active role in enhancing the digital presence of their respective parishes. Special focus was given to promoting key diocesan digital initiatives, specifically encouraging wider adoption of the ‘Catholic Connect App’ and the ‘My Diocese ERP’ platform among parishioners. Rev. Fr Rithesh Rodrigues, Director of the Diocesan Altar Servers and Resident Priest at Cascia Parish, was present during the programme. The orientation was coordinated by Ms Nikeeta Fernandes, Episcopal Deanery Representative for Social Communication, while Mr Vincent Mendonca from Valencia compered the evening. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr Joswin, Convenor of the Commission for Social Communication, Bendur Parish.
